Places still available for Scout Summer Camp
We still have 5 places available for this year's Summer Camp at Tolmers, near Cuffley between 27th July and 5th August. There are over 50 activities available including kayaking, quad bikes, sailing, dry slope skiing and abseiling. Also included is a day visit to the World Jamboree site at Hylands Park - a change of a lifetime. If you are interested, please speak to Chris asap as time is running out.
New leader joins Zeus
We would like to welcome Archie Holmes who has agreed to join the leadership team working with Zeus Explorers. Archie has already been to two camps with the unit - the very wet 'winter camp' at Gilwell Park and the even wetter kayaking course at Longridge, which was cancelled. Do you see a running theme here???
Zeus Dig up Old Fossils on Expedition weekend
Josh, Sam, Tom and Amy have just completed their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Expedition where they spent 2 days exploring the coastal path around Lyme Regis. They enjoyed fantastic weather (the only decent weather this season!) backpacking whilst looking for fossils which they are using for their project. Rumour has it they have made a unique discovery on their travels - they found the remains of a blind dinosaur rarely seen before - a doyouthinkthesaurus. (Yes that joke is as old as the fossils they were looking for!!)
Zeus beat the rain and paddle to 2* triumph
Five members of the Explorer Unit have battled floods and torrential storms to achieve 2* award for Kayaks from the British Canoe Union. Following one cancelled course, Ben, Dean, Dobby, Mike and Becky beat lightning strikes and swollen rivers to pass the course held at Longridge Scout Boating Centre, near Marlow. They also successfully got on 'national radio' with Becky responding to requests on Radio 1 for listeners muddiest weekdends - nobody could beat camping on an island and swimming in a dirty river!
Cubs and Scouts Celebrate Scouting 100 years
Cubs, Scouts and Beavers from the Group have been celebrating the centenary of Scouting by attending recent county organised events - these have included the St Georges Day activity day in Victoria Park, Bath and the Avon Jamboree - the Ton of Fun Camp held over a wet weekend at Woodhouse Park. Don't miss the Groups own celebrations on Friday 6th July at Mafeking Hall.
